This conference celebrates the breadth of digital technologies from early years to higher education in pursuit of developing a creative workforce who are engaged citizens in a digital and global world. Key issues in our ever-changing education system include the growing influence of Artificial Intelligence, Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality and the development of digital literacy and skills in learners of all ages.
We welcome government funding in initiatives such as the National Centre for Computing Education (NCCE) and the expansion of the Digital Schoolhouse programme. This conference seeks to provide a complementary forum geared towards research and professional development in which delegates can explore lessons learnt from the past, investigate current initiatives and debate the way forward.
We welcome all contributions from all members of our TPEA as well as people new to the field of edtech and digital education as well as researchers and companies. Our community is both wide-ranging, knowledgeable and many of the prominent writers in educational technology have or are members of our organisation.

There are two types of accommodation for this year’s conference: At the venue where the conference is being held (The Winchester Hotel & Spa) or to keep the costs down, University accommodation is also available but is a longer walk from the conference venue. Both of these options can be configured when you purchase your conference ticket.
‘Imagine a nation of horse riders with a clearly defined set of riding capabilities. In one short decade the motor car is invented and within that same decade many children become highly competent drivers extending the boundaries of their travel as well as developing entirely new leisure pursuits (like stock-car racing and hot rodding). At the end of the decade government ministers want to assess the true impact of automobiles on the nation’s capability. They do it by putting everyone back on the horses and checking their dressage, jumping and trotting as before. Of course, we can all see that it is ridiculous.’
Professor Stephen Heppell, (TPEA/ITTE/MirandaNet Member)
TPEA who are organising this conference aim to strengthen educators’ research voice and influence policy and practice in technology. Our purpose is to impact on learning by uniting research and practice in our support of initial and continuing professional development for educational professionals. TPEA members publish widely in professional journals, newsletters and in the education press and write most of the standard course books used in teacher education published by Routledge.
To be formally launched in 2019, TPEA is a partnership between the Association of Teacher Educators in Information Technology (ITTE) founded in 1986, and the MirandaNet Fellowship, founded in 1992, which together have nearly 1,500 members world wide. The name was chosen to align with ITTE’s well established international journal, Technology, Pedagogy and Education published by Taylor Francis that is edited by members. This is one of the top-ranked international journals in educational research.
